Old Spot Newsletter

The Merry Month of May gives way to Flaming June
Welcome to June's newsletter - in June! Sorry about missing May's, things get a little busy for all concerned! What a wonderful summer we had; those sun blistering 3 days just made it for me - I don't know about you but I can't wait until next year!

May was Mild Month featuring a selection of beers from various breweries. We are glad to report that many of you gave it a go! The days of associating mild as a old mans drink are fast disappearing and there are some absolute belting brews around now-a-days!

Building Work . . . (and the Toilet Party!)
Old Spot Garden Well, work around the pub has just about finished. We hope you like everything now you can see the finished results. It's great not having to apologise to the ladies for just having one loo! And how about the garden? Strangely, a lot more space even though we lost some of it to the new loos.

Garden Party Ticket The official launch was at our Summer Garden Party on Sunday the 8th June, with Reverend Janet as guest of honour to launch the new extension.

There was free beer and fodder, with music from Leon Daye who played for a remarkable four hours!. We were also privileged to have a guest spot by Mark from the Macaroni Penguins, Nancy and 'G', and one of the highlights of the day; Paul Gillogaley playing guitar and singing a tremendous rendition of American Pie! The Old Spot saw much merriment that day!

Brewery Trips
Wye Valley Brewery Trip For all those that went to Wye Valley Brewery, by the state of you when you got back to the pub, you seemed to have had a pretty good time! And there were plenty of smiles all round - and a few headaches the next day, I believe! However, a big thank you to you all for keeping the good name of the pub intact!!!

Unfortunately, we are suspending the Butcombe Brewery trip until June, but fear not, Butcombe Blond will be staying on the bar for the next couple of months.

Staff, New &anp; Returning!
NadineThe new lass behind the bar is Nadine boosting the female population behind the bar. You can always rely on her to bring a cheeky smile with every pint she pours. Nadine is very pleased to become a member of the team as it means she gets all the exercise she needs cycling to and from home-until her poorly car is fixed. She'll be mixing her time up behind the bar and the kitchen, so be nice - she maybe cooking your next meal!

Also, we are pleased to welcome Nathan & Grace back into the team during their few months off from Uni. Way to go, guys!

C17 Plumbing!
Some of you may have got a whiff of a damp staleness at busy times sorry, we have been trying to get on top of it, but due to 17th century plumbing, and the fact thet the glass washer and the sinks go into a soak away under the pub, when it gets busy, it just can't soak away fast enough. And we're busy an awful lot of the time! However, this is something under investigation, so please bare with us.

Tee, Polo and Rugby Shirts
We've come up with some fantastic ideas for the Frocester T-shirts this year.

Frocester T-shirts 2008

These will be on sale at the early July, with ladies and gents cuts available.

As for Old Spot T-shirts, Rugby shirts and Polo shirts, we are in the process for setting up a deal with a local T-shirt printing company where you will be able to order direct from them via our website, making it cheaper and easier. We are aiming for this to be in place around the same time.

Paintballing
Paintballing was amazing! By far the best paintballing day out we have done, with over 40 customers and staff turning out in there best 'camo' gear! The staff team were narrowly beaten by the customers: 400 800 . . . real close, but we at the Old Spot believe the customer should always win! The medal ceremony took place in the garden later that evening with awards going to Craig (best girly award for going home early with a hangover!), Fran for picking up best bruise (later disputed by an absloute belter!!!) and the annual Andy Unwin award went to Tom Sainty for unparalleled bravery with a rugby ball and hay bails (you had to there!). We are planning to organise a return match, It's open to everybody, so get your name down!.

Bearing this in mind, below are the answers to a couple of popular questions:

Are there girls going?Yes, loads
Does it hurt? No, body armour is supplied (though being shot on the bum can smart a bit)
How many paint balls will I need? Are your Arnie or Nikita? (it appears most of us were Arnies!)
Do you have to be fit?You do as much as you feels comfortable.

Old Spot Crossword - June 2008
We're having a change from the Wordsearch this month we've come up with a Crossword to entertain you! These are not easy to create, so let us know what you think! All answers relate in some way to the Old Spot you may need to look around the pub, ask some of the other locals, and check out some of the previous newsletters.

It's a 'community pub', so those of you who are new, don't be afraid to get involved and chat to the locals, and above all, enjoy!

Good Luck,
